Evolution of salt tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana on siliceous soils does not confer tolerance to saline calcareous soils

چکیده

Abstract Purpose Alkaline salinity constrains crop yield. Previously, we observed local adaptation of Arabidopsis thaliana to saline-siliceous soils (pH ≤ 7) and non-saline carbonate soils. However, no natural population A. was localized on saline-alkaline This suggests that tolerance evolved may not confer alkaline salinity. hypothesis explored by addressing physiological molecular responses differ in either non-alkaline or carbonate. Methods native (high salinity, HS), alkalinity, HA), with intermediate levels these factors (medium saline-alkalinity, MSA) were cultivated common gardens saline-calcareous substrates. Hydroponics irrigation experiments confirmed the phenotypes. The growth, mineral concentrations, proline content, osmotic potential, genetic variation distribution, expression selected genes involved alkalinity assessed. Results HS performed best soil hydroponics 5.9). more sensitive conditions than HA MSA. fitness under ranked according MSA > HS. Under maintained ion homeostasis, balance, higher key saline ( AHA1 , root HKT1 FRO2 shoot NHX1 IRT1 ). Conclusion In does provide Plants (MSA) have plasticity adapt those locally adapted individual stress factors.

Ice‐binding proteins confer freezing tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana

Lolium perenne is a freeze-tolerant perennial ryegrass capable of withstanding temperatures below -13 °C. Ice-binding proteins (IBPs) presumably help prevent damage associated with freezing by restricting the growth of ice crystals in the apoplast. We have investigated the expression, localization and in planta freezing protection capabilities of two L. perenne IBP isoforms, LpIRI2 and LpIRI3, ...

Spectral properties of salt crusts formed on saline soils.

Rapid identification and large-scale mapping of salt-affected lands will help improve salinity management in watersheds and ecosystems. This study was conducted to examine spectral reflectance of soils treated with saline solutions containing NaCl, NaHCO3, Na2SO4, and CaSO4.2H2O. Spectral reflectance was measured upon salt crusts formed on two soils (Torrifluvents) subirrigated with saline solu...

bHLH106 Integrates Functions of Multiple Genes through Their G-Box to Confer Salt Tolerance on Arabidopsis

An activation-tagging methodology was applied to dedifferentiated calli of Arabidopsis to identify new genes involved in salt tolerance. This identified salt tolerant callus 8 (stc8) as a gene encoding the basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor bHLH106. bHLH106-knockout (KO) lines were more sensitive to NaCl, KCl, LiCl, ABA, and low temperatures than the wild-type. Back-transformation of t...

MSRB7 reverses oxidation of GSTF2/3 to confer tolerance of Arabidopsis thaliana to oxidative stress

Methionine sulfoxide reductases (MSRs) catalyse the reduction of oxidized methionine residues, thereby protecting proteins against oxidative stress. Accordingly, MSRs have been associated with stress responses, disease, and senescence in a taxonomically diverse array of organisms. However, the cytosolic substrates of MSRs in plants remain largely unknown. Here, we used a proteomic analysis stra...
